What is the difference from a driver and a 1 wood?

Same thing.  Back when woods were made from wood (persimmon wood)  the driver was the 1 wood and actually had a number 1 on the sole.  Nowadays, the driver has the degree of loft and other info imprinted on the sole.  Also referred to as the  Big Dawg, the Big Stick, The Hammer, The Money Club just to name a few.
