  1. Traction control regulates putting power to the road. For example if you floor it in the rain, it will reduce power or apply brakes to prevent wheel spin. Stability control will prevent your car from going in to a slide. It will apply the brakes/transfer power to specific wheels to keep the car from drifting sideways or spinning around.

Electronic stability control (ESC) is a computerized technology that improves the safety of a vehicle's handling by detecting and preventing skids. When ESC detects loss of steering control, ESC automatically applies individual brakes to help "steer" the vehicle where the driver wants to go. Braking is automatically applied to individual wheels, such as the outer front wheel to counter oversteer, or the inner rear wheel to counter understeer. Some ESC systems also reduce engine power until control is regained.

A traction control system (TCS), also known as Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), on current production vehicles, are typically (but not necessarily) electro-hydraulic systems, designed to prevent loss of traction of the driven road wheels, and therefore the control of the vehicle, when excessive throttle is applied by the driver, and the condition of the road surface (due to varying factors) is unable to cope with the torque applied. Although similar to electronic stability control (ESP) systems, traction control systems do not have the same goal.

  3. Traction control generally transfers power FROM the tire without traction TO the tire with traction.

Stability control is generally the same thing just marketed differently.

  4. Traction control helps maintain grip on the road, like going through mud, sand, snow, ice, water, etc.

Stability control helps maintain control while turning.  It helps to counteract over steer and under steer.
