What is the difference in distance between a 22 degree 3i hybrid and a 22 degree 5 wood?

Most 3 hybrids are less than 22 degrees and most 5 woods are less than 22 degrees.  My 3 hybrid is 20 degrees and my 5 wood is 18.  I hit the 5 wood 10 yards longer but the hybrid higher.  You will probably find very little distance difference and may wish to change out 1 of the clubs for another wedge.  If the distances are about the same the hybrid probably has more utility.

5 wood has a bigger head & longer shaft, will go further.  3 hybrid (although 22 deg is closer to 4 hybrid loft) has smaller head & shorter shaft, easier to control.  I carry both to cover yardage gaps.  Also, both are great for greenside rough chipping (I believe I got this idea from watching something on Arnold Palmer so don't blast me!)

Now that I reread your question, I'm not sure about the average distance someone can expect to hit them.  I hit my 5 wood about 195-200 and my 23 degree hybrid about 180-185.  I'm a shorter hitter with woods, but average distance with irons.

the hi bird will go slightly further , only reson closed face . the 5 wood will carry further . more accurate , if you can control the draw factorin the hybird , with practice , more versitale . for chipping , rough shots . good luck thank you

Usually the 5 wood will go further - since this is a 'distance' question.

The lofts are pretty similar from company to company so if you get a 5 wood and move to a 3 hybrid, that's a decent spacing for yardages.

If you want to replace the 3 hybrid you would put a 7-wood in the bag.

I was carrying a driver to 3-wood to 7-wood 21 degree and 4 23 degree hybrid.

I recently changed it to a 3-wood to a 22 degree hybrid which took the place of two clubs. To get distance like a 7-wood, I'd take a normal swing. To shorten it, normal swing but I grip lower on the club.

This gives me an extra wedge.
