I am a Canadien who wants to visit a freind in the US. I recently attempted to visit by air, but was turned down at customs for lack of ties to Canada. I was wondering if traveling by land would be easier, or what the difference would be between traveling by land and air through customs.

  1. Really? You got turned down because of "Lack of Ties"? Are you a citizen? I didn't know that you could be turned down for something like THAT!

Well, I know that you need a passport... Duh... and a legitimate reason for going... You seem to have both so I can't foresee too much hassle...

If I were you I would contact the TSA and spell out your whole story to them...

What happened with the air travel...

    Your current living situation...

    Your current Citizenship...

Why you want to come to the US...

Include the address of the friends you want to visit...

I apologize for my paranoid government! LOL! We can take things too far at times... But paranoia can be a good thing in the long run!

Good luck to you! I hope you make it!

  2. To come into the US via train or car, I believe that you only need a Photo ID and possibly a birth certificate.  You will need a recognized passport to enter the US via plane.

  3. in general airlines have tighter security and its pretty easy for an american to drive through.  what do you mean by a "lack of ties to canada"?

i would have thought you would just get a visa online and fly right through(with a passport), thats how it is between america and australia...thats just weird
