  1. well, there are different brands and sizes. I recommend elixirs, they last 3-5 times longer due to nano-web technology. I would recommend heavy if you are beginning because after using those, your technique will be a lot better ie. bends, pull offs, etc. Good luck.

  2. The sort of strings you buy will depend on your playing style and the sort of music you play. If you like to thrash it, you will need medium to heavy. If you play more gently, with lots of string bends, a lighter gauge will probably be better.

I tend to use Ernie Ball strings, but Rotosound  make.good electric strings. It's really a matter of experimenting with different gauges until you find the ones that suit you.

    Hope this helps

  3. Lessee....

Steel vs Nickel. Steel strings are brighter, nickel strings (actually a nickel alloy) are warmer. Steel are a little harder on your frets. Nickel are rarer.

Roundwound vs Flatwound. Flatwounds are a little easier on the fingers, and also sound a little less "attackey". Flatwounds are relatively rare.

Coated vs Noncoated. Coated strings last longer, but some of the coatings can affect the sound of the string response. Coated strings are usually significantly more expensive than non-coated strings.

I like Elixirs... they're all I use. For me they last somewhere around 3 times longer than non-coated strings, and I like the way they sound. They're nickel and coated.... I assume roundwound.
