  1. Yahoo! Mail is for e-mail messages that are sent to an e-mail address like ______@yahoo.com through the same or another e-mail service. Yahoo 360, a social networking service, has a mailbox that receives messages that are sent to you solely through Yahoo! 360. They are separate services.

It is set up that way for safety reasons, as it can help protect your Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo ID (the part to the left of the @ sign) from strangers.

Now, you can receive alerts about Yahoo! 360 messages, invitations, and comments in your Yahoo! Mail service. However, that's just the alert about the message. The actual message is stored in your Yahoo! 360 service. People send messages to you via 360, by clicking on the envelope icon/"Send a Message" link by your name (if permission allow) in their Home Page, My Friends page and other areas in the 360 space.
