What is the difference when you take the abortion pill or go though the surgical?

I ask because I want to know what one is better? I know that some people don't believe in this and I know that none of them are better but I need to know. I am guessing that the pill is like a miscarriage maybe, but I don't know about the surgical.

  1. The abortion pill can only be taken up to 8 weeks into the pregnancy, the surgical can be done till much later. One isn't really better than the other, they are just different and it would depend on what the woman is more comfortable with.

With the pill you are basically inducing a miscarriage. You take one pill that cuts out a necessary hormone, ending the pregnancy, and you take another set of pills (either vaginally or orally) that cause you uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy tissue. It takes longer, there will almost certainly be more bleeding and cramping, and you will have to return to the doctor's office to make sure the abortion was completed. But many women prefer this method because you go through the abortion at home, and it is much less invasive.

Surgical abortion on the other hand involves one visit, and the whole process is pretty quick with not too much bleeding or cramping. But you are in a doctor's office, and it is most invasive. They will essentially lay you down on a table and remove the fetus.

The surgical abortion is also 99% effective while the medical (abortion pill) is 97% effective.

  2. Medical Abortion using the abortion pill doesn't require any type on invasive surgery, but it is only effective in the very early stages of pregnancy.  If you need to get advice on this schedule at a clinic and they will explain all your abortion options depending on how far along you are.  If you try aborting this way and it does not work you will need to have surgical abortion. Usually you are put to sleep for a few moments whilst they remove the fetus, you will bleed for a few days and be quite tender, like a heavy period.

  3. I think the pill has to be taken right away.. otherwise it has to be done surgically.. but I am not sure.. the pill is fairly new.

Don't beat yourself up too much.... I would rather see more people do this than have children coming into the world that they cannot take care of.. wish more teenagers would consider this option.  Good luck to you.

    tha link explains all.

. The pill is like a miscarriage. it is two types of pills i think. One blocks a hormone needed to continue pregnancy and the other will cause contractions. The link explains things better.

  5. you can only take the pill in early stages of pregnancy this is like a miscarriage they insert two pills up you and then you have to go back to have another two pills inserted up you, to have the abortion surgical, they also insert some kind of jelly up you before your operation which gives you cramps, then when its time for your surgery they put like a vacuum up you which sucks it all out, theres only little bleeding after that, but NO pain so dont listen to some of these stupid answers on here coz i have had it done although it does emotionally drain you

  6. The pill is like a miscarriage, the surgery is like ripping arms and legs off with a powerful vacuum cleaner and slicing and dicing. Sorry to be graphic, but that is how it is. Planned parenthood won't tell you that. It is a baby. It does feel pain. Give it to someone who can care for it properly. Please.

  7. "RU-486 is often referred to as "the abortion pill." When taken within 49 days of your last period, the RU-486 pill terminates a pregnancy. It works by blocking a certain hormone that is needed in sustaining a healthy pregnancy. This pill can only be gotten at a doctor or clinic--not over the counter. Overall, RU-486 is a safe option, however carries more risks than other surgical abortive options."
