What is the difference with a nail overlay without tips and a regular French tip acrylic? ?

My nails are brittle and don't grow long without breaking and cracking, and I was looking for a better alternative to grow them out without having to always go to the salon and ask for a "pink and white" gel or regular acrylic with tips. I had a friend in high school who went to the salon and got just the "powder" on her nails and not the tip and she said it made her nails grow longer naturally, and I was wondering if this was the same as a "natural nail overlay".

Yes it sounds like your friend had a natural nail overlay of some kind. The thing is you are still required to get infills with these although if the tech works it really thin around the cuticle and sidewalls then you could perhaps stretch in fills to monthly or slightly more. If you dont have the time or the money for regular salon trips and are fairly steady handed you could try doing a silk wrap at home. Its pretty simple to do and in my opinion is the nicest looking of the nail systems.
