In my opinion it is just the difference of what KIND of word.  Entrepreneur is a noun - a person that has the will and drive to head in the direction of an independent status of profession.  Entrepreneurship is a noun also - it just describes what KIND of business the happenings are pertaining to.  An entrepreneurship of a business of some sort...  An independent contractor is a type of entrepreneurship.

  2. An entrepreneur is a person who has possession over a new enterprise or venture and assumes full accountability for the inherent risks and the outcome

Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting new organizations or revitalizing mature organizations, particularly new businesses generally in response to identified opportunities. Entrepreneurship is often a difficult undertaking, as a vast majority of new businesses fail. Entrepreneurial activities are substantially different depending on the type of organization that is being started.

The source below compares the two.

  3. An entrepreneur is the individual, entrepreneurship is a characteristic of the individual.

I would think, the essence of entrepreneurship is a desire and willingness to start something new...a drive to "lead the pack" in some way. Passion, determination, and a willingness to accept risk are all common characteristics of good entrepreneurs.
