  1. Figure skating is elements while ice dancing is a form of pairs and is interpretive. Ice dancing you wear longer skirts, and figure skating you are basicly wearing a leotard and a really mini skirt that are just attached together. I love figure skating, and no offence to you ice dancers out there, but I think its kinda dorky and for the no talent people or the wanna bes. I hope I helped you a little bit!

  2. Ice dancing is kind of like doing ballroom dancing on the ice and you don't do any jumps. In figure skating, skaters can do jumps and spins.

    ^_^

  3. Figure skating uses various moves and techniques, while Ice Dancing is just that, dancing, you can't make those spins or whirls like you can with figure skating. Another thing, with Ice Dancing, the pair never separates, while in figure skating, they do.

  4. Ice dancing is basically ballroom, salsa, and onther types of dance, just while skating.

I hope this answers your question!:)

  5. In addition to what people said above, ice dancers have different blades from freestyle skaters.  Their blades are shorter in the back because they have to skate so closely to their partner's feet.  They also are sharpened a little differently to help them get really beautiful deep edges.

  6. Figure Skating requiers way more skill.

It has jumps and spins and spirals,

While Ice dancing is just, well dancing on ice.

  7. Different moves, foot work, lifts

  8. in figure skating you do jumps and spins while in ice dancing it's just dancing really

    hope this helps !!!

  9. figure skating is where u do jumps and spins and can be a pair or singles sport where as ice dancing is a two person sport with foot work and things like that but not much spinning and no jumping. plus in figure skating girls wear shorter skirts and tight sleeves if any and ice dancing it is common to wear a longer skirt and if possible to wear longer droopier sleeves because in figure skating you are jumping and spinning and those kinds of things could get caught in the blades

    hope this helps!!!good luck : )

  10. Figure skating is a term that encompasses the whole sport.  It includes three disciplines: singles (also called freestyle skating), pairs, and ice dance.  (There is also synchronized skating, which is whole teams of skaters).

In ice dance, skaters learn set compulsory dance patterns (either with or without a partner).  Competitive ice dancers are partnered, and do compulsory dances, along with original and free dances.  Ice dance focuses on edges, turns, holds, rhythm, and expression, along with small lifts (not above the shoulder) and dance spins.  Dancers don't do jumps or throw jumps, or (usually) spins by themselves.  Ice dance often doesn't get credit for being as difficult as it is.  It's very hard to maintain rhythm & interpretation, have deep edges, and quick turns while skating mere inches away from another person.  Many singles & pairs skaters have taken ice dance lessons at some point to improve their presentation and basic skating.

Singles/freestyle skating is one person by him or herself.  Focus is on spins and jumps, but also basic skating (edges & turns & stroking), field moves (spirals, spread eagles, footwork, etc.) and expression.

Pairs skating is two people doing freestyle skating together.  They do side-by-side spins and jumps, and also pairs-only moves, like throw jumps, split twists, death spirals, lifts, and pairs spins.  Like ice dance, you have the added difficulty of skating close to another person.

  11. figure skating has jumps/spins and footwork and regular pairs has lifts above the shoulders. ice dancing is basically footwork/dancing on the ice with lifts in pairs that are not allowed above the males shoulders. the girls tend to where longer skirts because there is less worry about the blade catching in spins/jumps because they dont really do them in ice dance. ice dancing in pairs can be more difficult because feet are easily tangled.

ice dancing tests are also very different. you will learn different dances like 'fox trot' and 'waltz' and test in them while figure skating has required elements such as jumps and spins and spiral sequences and then take a separate test for 'moves in the field' which is the footwork portion.

    hope this helps!!
