  1. I think of them as the same thing except that I called mine a diary until I was about 16, then decided "journal" sounded more grown up.

It was kind of sad to stop writing "Dear Diary". "Dear Journal" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

  2. a diary is like your secrets and stuff and you like dont have to write down the date or anything you just kinda talk to it like a person and a journal you write down the days of the year day by day and write what happend

  3. A diary is a which has a seperate space or page for each day of the year on which to keep a record of appointments.

A journal is a diary which someone keeps regularly.

To me (NZ) it is exactly the same thing.  Journal is just another word/antonym for diary

  4. Technically they are the same thing, a daily record of events or business transactions, but a diary is usually to record past, present and future events in the life of the owner, which is why there is space allocated for every day of the year.

An accounts journal has columns for date, description and amounts, while a personal journal could be written in a blank notebook (or nowadays online as a blog for example).

Tell him if he doesn't want you or others to read it, he should call it his diary! (joking)

Origin is French: jour, and Latin: diem = day.

  5. They are exactly the same thing. Neither one has to be written in every single day.

  6. well a diary is personal and most of the times secret when a journal is sort  of like a log of some sort!

  7. Diary and journal are the same thing.  The recording of occurance, experience, or observation.  However, the term diary usually means private.  A person may keep a journal about a trip they are taking, or about scientific observation.

  8. I think a diary and a journal are mostly the same thing except a boy or man would call it a journal, so it didn't sound girly.
