  1. If I'm correct, I think some digital cameras do not allow alkaline batteries.

So if you wanna buy rechargeable batteries for your cam, look at its specifications first to be safe. And, when you finally do purchase your batteries, choose the lighter ones. When I'm travelling and seem to be using the camera every second, I become really aware of how much difference the batteries make to the weight of the camera :) You don't want to tire yourself.

  2. As far as Digital Cameras go you will get the best performance from NiMH Batteries the Alkaline will not last long enough for you to enjoy your Camera.

stay away from Alkaline batteries for Digital if you must use any non NiMH batteries then go for a Lithium type battery.

    Good Luck

  3. I have not seen a comparison between the two.

Since most AA chargers can be used for charging both rechargeable alkaline and NiMH batteries, buy a couple of each and test them ... see which perform better and let us know.

  4. You can use both, but the big differences are:

    1) NiMH batteries have more capacity

    2) They don't last as long in terms of charge cycles.  NiMH can be recharged 1000 times or more; rechargeable alkalines retain full capacity for a few hundred cycles.

    3)  Here's the biggest difference:  alkalines work best in low-drain devices, like remote controls or portable AM/FM radios.  They do not work well in high-drain devices like digital cameras.  In other words, while they will work, they will die quickly just like non-rechargeable alkaline batteries.

With the advent of low self-discharge NiMH batteries (also called "long-life NiMH") that have long shelf lives, rechargeable alkalines are essentially obsolete and are not a good choice.  You are better off with the new NiMH batteries like the Sanyo Eneloop.
