  1. A non-profit company (in any industry) is a company registered by law to be considered a non-profit for tax purposes. Whereas a normal corporation will be hit with business taxes, a non-profit does not pay tax because they re-invest any profit back into the company, instead of paying shareholders dividends or distributing it to the owners.
