  1. The 747-400 is just an updated version of the 747.  It incorporates improvements made over the years such as greater range, capacities and speed.

  2. The Boeing 747-400 is a recent model of the Boeing 747 family, which has been in production for more than 40 years, with steady improvements.

The 747-400 is no more nor less "ordinary" than any other typical large jet airliner of today.  It's just another model.

As mentioned by a previous answerer, the -400 is famous for having transitioned to a fully "glass" cockpit environment, and having dispensed with the Flight Engineer in favor of computer controlled systems and sequences.  But all of that is typical in the current designs, and nothing about it is any less "ordinary" than other current machines.

  3. your Q is hard to comprehend, because you place a p on the series 400 (B747-400p) the second thing is your comparison is an ordinary jet? What jet? A small jet? Because a 747 is a Big jet.Do you mean the B747 classic or series 200.

B747-400 flies EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System) and has a glass cockpit.

It has an APU (PW901A) that can start all 4 engines at the same time (but to prolong APU life pilots start 2 engine start only). So make your Q clearer so that my answer is more definitive to your Q.
