What is the differnace between aircraft and car's RIM?

i m trying to design aircarft's rim in ansys as my term project.

so help me.

  1. Aircraft rims are very different from vehicle rims. First of all they usually come in two parts (since it is almost impossible to stretch the tire over the rim). The two parts are bolted together with a large number of locking bolts. Also venting is quite important in aircraft wheels to allow cooling air to pass over the breaking calipers and rotors. The material they are made of is also very important. They are usually made of light high strength aircraft grade aluminum. And they are coated (or treated) with various platings for corrosion resistance.

    Good luck designing those new rims! (I have to say I have never seen any aircraft rims with spinners...I'm sure there are lots of celebrities that would buy those for their Gulf Stream V! You could corner the market.)


  2. May I ask what you are talking about?  RIM 'Run in mileage'? Does not apply to aircraft.  Rim's where the tire is attached?  Not capitalized.
