  1. its high definition...better quality

  2. Regular TV was designed in the 1940's to fill a 9-inch black and white screen and mono sound. Color and stereo sound were added a few years later.

    HDTV is different because:

    - The resolution and color depth is much higher giving a 10 fold increase in picture quality.

    - It's digital instead of analog (taking advantage of years of computer technology and monitor development)

    - The sound standard is Dolby Digital 5.1 for real surround sound.

  3. HD TV is generally only "HD ready", since there is no HD source included.

Conventional (SD) TV generally operates at 576i (PAL) or 480i (NTSC), for the 625 line or 525 line formats.

HD is 720p or above (720 line progressive).

Possible sources which are above standard definition are:

    1. DVD with progressive scan (actually only 576p, but better than ordinary SD, as it can apply inverse telecine to reconstruct 576 line frames at film speed).

    2. Upscaling DVD player using HDMI connection (again, not true HD).

    3. Blue-ray

    4. Satellite or cable box with HD service

NB. HD-DVD (obsolete) will be HD on HD-DVD material, upscaling on normal DVD, at the right price (low!), a HD-DVD player can be quite a good upscaling DVD player.

  4. Better pic.

  5. HD TV is the next generation of TV normal TV display approx 600 lines of detail vertically across our screens HD TV displays 1080 and so much more detail is visible and it makes a real difference if you have an upgraded aerial, signal cable and a quality HD TV trust me
