What is the diffrence between Over and On.Please explain with an example?

It was on table is right or on the table.

  1. 'On' means resting on the top of something, while 'over' can mean that it is physically above the other thing, but not actually touching.  I.E., the book is on top of the table, or the book is floating over the table. (Kinda a weird example...)


  2. Over is often used in thinking about motion, like jumping over the table.

    But you could also talk about something over like "The light is hanging over the table".
