What is the diffrence between a blue ray disc and a regular dvd??

i alwayss look at a regular dvd. for example high school musical 2. i looked upp tha price at borders and a regular dvd is like 15-$20 but wen ii looked upp tha blue ray it was like $30-$40!!! wats the difrence?? best answer 10 points!!!! =)

Well, blue-ray disks are 1080p, high definition.  A regular DVD is just standard definition.  You can also fit a lot more information on a blueray disk then a DVD because of the way they compress things.  Its really a better quality disk that requires a separate player too.

BluRay has far superior video quality.  BluRay is output at 1080p.  They also offer over 50gigs of storage, better sound and much more special features.  It is a nextgen technology.

DVD's are old and played out.  They only output at a maximum of a 480p resolution.  They also have a very limited amount of storage.

It's a different format allowing for more data.  In regards to movies, you pack significantly more data which is going to result in a crisper, sharper picture.  True 1080p resoluition is what the hype is about.

However, you need a Blu-ray DVD player to use those discs.

The BluRay version will be in high definition and there is probably more content on that disc too... The "regular" DVD version is in standard definition...

Check the $ per disc with a little bit of math...

Regular DVDs hold up to either 4.7gig (single layer) or 8.5 gig (double layer). They are inexpensive. BluRay discs start at about 25 gig and get bigger than that.

Do you have a BluRay DVD player? If not, you do not need the BluRay DVD version.

blu ray is a new technology that allows for much better picture quality(displays in full hd if u have an hdtv). it also has much more memory in the disc which allows for more special features and multiple episodes of a season of a tv show. i.e. u need less discs to hold the whole season of a tv show such as seinfeld.

u need a blu ray player and preferably an hdtv to play blu ray movies.
