  1. The odd thing is that a cyclone in terms of weather rotates sclockwise (Coriolis effect) and is found in the southern hemisphere. Anticyclones are the northern hemisphere equivalent and rotate counterclockwise. Hurricanes are very strong anticyclones. But for some reason the recent Burmese disaster was called a cyclone...even though it was a powerful anticyclone.

  2. one has a cool name :)

  3. i think there's no differnence. people from asia just call it cyclone and people from the us hurricane. at least i think so....

  4. The technical definition of a cyclone (note lower case lettering) is ANY rotating low pressure area in the atmosphere.  A hurricane is but one particular type of cyclone.  Now if you are referring to the storm system in the news lately that struck Myanmar (Burma), that was a Cyclone (note capitalization).  That is the same as a hurricane, but it is called a Cyclone over the north Indian Ocean.  A Typhoon is also the same thing, but it is named that if it is over the western north Pacific Ocean.

  5. I think they are the same thing.  They just have different names in different parts of the world.  Also, I think they rotate in opposite directions.
