  1. Both these answers are correct, but there's more.  The purpose of bounce, especially in a sand wedge, is to keep the leading edge (bottom front edge of the clubface) from digging into the sand.  Essentially, the club will "float" through the sand.

    On a tight, flat lie, the bounce on a wedge (for example; all clubs have some bounce) will not allow you to make solid contact with the ball, sometimes producing a line-drive or "skulled" shot.


  2. The bounce is the area that sits below the leading edge.  If you sit a wedge on a hard surface, you'll see the leading edge is up off the ground. The higher it sits, the more bounce the club has. Wedges come with varying degrees of bounce to suit a players swing charecteristics, playing conditions, etc.

  3. Bounce is how the club rests against the ground. The higher the bounce the better the club plays in the wet turf. Lower is better for hardpan
