Ive been told going to the basement isnt even effective unless you go to the right corner. i.e- Northeast, Southeast, etc...

  1. I would think it would depend on which way the tornado is coming from..

I also just did a quick online search, and apparently the myth is the southwest, but apparently that's actually the worst place..

  2. it doesn't matter just as long as you aren't close to the opening and the basement or structure that your in can withstand the pressure.

  3. I live in a pretty tornado-plagued part of the country, and nobody has ever told us a direction of the basement to get into. I could assume that just being there gets you away from danger as much as possible. If you have windows in the basement, obviously you want to be as far away from them as possible, but that's the only thing I could think of!

  4. Tornadoes travel from southwest to northeast, usually.

So you'd be safer in the southwest corner.

Debris will fly overhead, instead of into you.
