  3. If the boiling point is below room temp, like N2O, then the anesthetic is a gas, and must be stored in cylinders. (Nitrous is stored in cylinders as a liquid, but under pressure, and it comes out of the cylinder as a gas)

    Those with higher BPs, like the halogenated ethers, can be stored as liquids - much more convenient.  We use vaporizers to saturate a portion of the fresh gas flow with the anesthetic gas and deliver it to the patient.
