  1. It's horses for courses - not so much as the disadvantages of organic soils, but what finds them advantageous. Bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms ; lots of plants thrive in organic soils, especially what are termed 'gross feeders' - commercially  vegetable plants flowering plants etc.

On the other hand, there are lots of plants which thrive in poorer soils, nutritionally, such as Mediterranean types, herbs and shrubs. and of course desert plants such as cacti.

  2. Several actually, weed, pest and disease control. Certain rhizomes from plants such as Japanese knotweed thrive in organic soils. you can't use chemicals controls, but there are organic controls.

  3. The only disadvantage which appears to me is the contents of the soil are not welldefined means how much nitrogen, phosphorus etc are there in the soil we donot know. It can be measured however by proper soil analysis.
