Multifunction peripheral, such as a printer/copier/scanner/fax?

The advantage is that you get several capabilities in one piece of gear. Disadvantage? My experience is that this type of device doesn't play well with others. It will want to load a specific set of software to do all those functions and if you try to use a different capability (fax directly from Word, scan with a different unit, etc) things can get messed up pretty quickly.

Maybe it's better now, but when I bought a multi-peripherial, things were so bad that I forced the multi to be only a printer, since it really confused my computer otherwise.
