  1. elastic deformation means the object will return to it's original form, sort of snap back into place.  Plastic means some permanent change has been made.

Think of a rubber band.  It will usually snap back to it's original form, but pull it too hard and it will start to rip.  That's getting into the plastic deformation phase.

  2. Elastic deformation springs back to its original shape when unloaded.

Plastic deformation permanently sets the material.  (This only happens after the elastic limit for the material has been exceeded.)

  3. Plastic deformation permanently alters the shape of the object; it bends it. Elastic deformation springs back to the original shape.

  4. elastic deformation is stretching that returns to its original position.

plastic deformation is permanent stretching that does not recover.

say you stretch a piece of wire till it almost breaks, but doesn't. it will stretch, and when you let go, the amount it shrinks is the elastic deformation. the final length minus the original is the plastic deformation
