  1. Prejudice is pre conceived or taught negative notions of a particular group of people, example, all blacks are on welfare and don't want to work.  to that point anybody can be prejudice. and most people are in some way, due to lack of knowledge of a particular group.

discrimination, using empowerment to negatively effect a minority, examples, deny housing in a particular neighborhood, asking for additional ID in a store because the person is using a credit card and you think they stole it.

To that point, only a majority, or the empowered can be discriminatory (can't discriminate if you have no power over the group)

  2. discrimination is actually acting out on prejudice.

let's say you have a prejudice against african american - you would not really associate with them or be interested in their culture, or maybe even hold negative views about aspects of their lives

Discrimination on the other hand is if you are hiring and when an african american qualified candidate shows up for an interview, you automatically assume that he has negative qualities (even though you have no direct proof) and do not offer him the job that he might be more qualified for.

  3. prejudice is what you think about a group

discrimination is what you do to someone or group because they are different. discrimination can be unprejudiced or prejudice also.

    examples

~prejudice discrimination: hitler and the holocaust....

~unprejudice discrimination: leaving someone out just because everyone else does but others do it because they are prejudice, and the unprejudice do it because they are followers who may like the person or group being discriminated against.
