What is the dress code for Broadway shows?

I am going to see Legally Blonde the Musical on Broadway at the end of the month, and I am wondering what I am supposed to wear? Is it a fancy dress code? I will in the city for the day, and would hate to walk around all dressed up in August heat. How casual can I go?

I just went to NYC to see Spamalot, and there were tourists in shorts there, so pretty much anything goes. Have a blast!

It depends on the show you are going to.  Some you may have to dress up for while at others it would be fine to wear jeans and a nice top.

You don't need to dress up.

People dress up for operas, but it is not required.

a nice top and jeans will do fine (be sure to bring a jacket cause it gets really cold inside @_@)
