  1. I am assuming you are coming for a 'convention'?  If not, can you explain what a convocation is please.  Given that the area is around Nimbin you could probably get away with a tye dye shirt, headband and flares and nobody would raise an eyebrow (there's a few old hippies around that way).  Unless you are coming for a surgeon's conference in which case then you must bring a navy blue double breasted jacket.  Are they having any formal dinners?  If they are it might be worth bringing a suit and tie.

Generally people in Australia are pretty easy going and are pretty casual in their dress (unless of course they live in Melbourne - the fashion capital).

  2. It really depends on the type of convention,I can't imagine that it is likely to be too formal in Lismore ,however start with a suit and tie the jacket can be easily removed and also some smart casual clothes would come in handy if you want to see the local pub life.

  3. Dress well but don't overdo it....Australia is pretty well layed back and it can be quite hot at times although there will be air conditioning.

  4. What's a convocation?

  5. Yes long sleeves and trousers would be fine.

  6. I'm assuming you mean convocation: a church synod or an assembly of some kind.

If it were me I'd do the jacket and tie thing on the first day.

You can always take them off.

It's always better to be overdressed at these functions than to be too casual.

We're fairly laid-back here in Australia, but it's better to be safe than embarrassed.
