  1. Neuromuscular blocking drugs.  They also paralyze the diaphragm, so you need to take over breathing.  They act at the junction between the nerves and muscles, so that the muscles don't work.

    Some of them are:

succinylcholine (the only depolarizing agent currently in use)

    rocuronium

    vecuronium

    pancuronium

    cis-atracurium

curare (we used to use this - it's no longer available)

    atracurium

    mivacurium

(The "cur" in these names relates to curare)

They can be reversed with anticholinesterase inhibitors.

  2. perhaps adenosine

  3. Succinylcholine, norcuron, zemuron, pavulon, there's quite a few... They are paralytics. Some last for a few minutes, some for hours. Routineley used during surgery, sometimes for emergencies to protect the airway or support breathing with a ventilator. Very dangerous class of drugs, deadly if used wrong.

  4. I'm thinking of succinylcholine or Anectine. It is a potent muscle relaxant used as an adjunct with anesthesia during surgery.

Curare was discovered by the natives of South America, and has similar effects.
