Taxidermy is the art of preserving animals. When an insect dies it leaves it's hard Chitin outer layer, such as humans leave skeletons.

Drying out would also be dehydration, and the act of becoming one with the soil again is decay, where the nitrogen and carbon of your body will feed the plants if you are buried. (Not sure if cremated ashes have any fertilizing potential)

Interesting fact; a lot of times when an animals dies, it will defecate and urinate as after rigor-mortis muscles are loosened again, leaving no control of the bladder or a**s. This will lower the water content of a body as f***s and urine are both comprised of a lot of water.
