  1. My favorite argument that natural global warming deniers have, is that the ICECAPS are melting it must be humanities fault.

  2. I vote for this one:

"I am waiting to see a man-made global warming supporter explain how humans are causing the temperature change on Mars." posted above by Garafalo

Logical fallacy #1 (AKA Straw man) - Humans did not cause the temperature to change on Mars, nor do any AGW supporters claim so

Logical fallacy #2 (AKA False Dilemma) - The above "argument" is that: Humans have either caused ALL planetary warming (on all planets) or they have caused NONE.  In reality different things can cause warming on different planets at different times.

  3. Deniers? You must mean people that don't blindly believe in unproven theories? that seems less than intelligent also.

  4. There are just so many to choose from, and you've got some good examples, but this one is my all-time favorite:

"You global warming dopes don't drink soda or beer do you?"

You have to read the whole question and answers to really appreciate how dumb this argument is.  I thought my answer and Trevor's were particularly good.

  5. First, I believe in conservation and becoming more efficient in using natural resources and a promotion of new technologies to reduce our dependence on oil and reducing pollutants... with that being said I DO NOT beleive in exclusive MAN MADE global warming.

Most global warming zealots will point to graphs that show a warming trend from the 1800's through today. They cite that the last decade has been the warmest on record...on record of less than 200 years. What they don't show you or refuse to acknowledge is that Europe and NA were in a mini ice age from before 1600 through 1800. Just watch the History Channel for the special. In these times, rivers were icing, snowcaps were increasing in size, and George Washington crossed an icy Delaware River. We started coming out of the mini ice age in the 1800's. So YES, the earth has warmed since the 1800's as proven by the graphs but it is taken out of context.  In reality, perhaps we are just getting back to normal.

    From Wilkipedia:

    "

1250 for when Atlantic pack ice began to grow

1300 for when warm summers stopped being dependable in Northern Europe

1315 for the rains and Great Famine of 1315-1317

1550 for theorized beginning of worldwide glacial expansion

1650 for the first climatic minimum

In contrast to its uncertain beginning, there is a consensus that the Little Ice Age ended in the mid-19th century. "

See the graph representing temperatures over the last 2000 years at:

You will see that we are cooler now then 1000 years ago...

Interesting study from the Univ of Michigan and Greenland Ice core Project show that temperatures were 3 degrees higher 3000 years ago then they are today as seen on the graph on page 3 of their study. They conclude that before man could influence climate, natural warming and cooling trends existed.

Should we not look to the Sun and realize that it is a potential cause as well?

    In my opinion:

Many  scientists and researchers make their living by grants for their scientific studies. So, if someone wanted to prove man made global warming existed, they would fund a grant to a research team to prove it. You can make any research fit to a desired result. If I were a researcher, wouldn't I want to make my client happy and make the data "fit"? If the research presents contrary information, those researchers would be out of a grant for the following year.  As I read somewhere, I could prove that 10 year olds with large feet are smarter than those with small feet. All I have to do is take a survey and work the data to make it fit.

In conclusion, I do not believe that we have the knowledge to understand the earth and should not take a "the Sky is falling” approach. Further study on global warming is needed and we need to be made weary of the "religious crusade" that so many people follow where you are either for it or against it. I am leery about those who ridicule those scientists who question the scientific "fact" of global warming. Isn't that what it is all about...questioning? When we thought technology was at its peak, "scientists" thought the earth was flat, the sun revolved around the earth, nothing is smaller then an atom, newtons law of gravity (doesn’t work on a large scale)...all these "facts" have been disproved and although technology advances daily, we need to humble ourselves and accept the fact that we will NEVER know everything. We will continue to grow and learn and discover.

  6. Don't forget volcanoes.  Maybe the most dumb in terms of defiance of the data.

  7. That making artificial carbonated drinks is a natural process. My all time favorite is some airhead made a connection with evolution and automobiles.Another good one is the lack of natural interactions with climate...but I'm a skeptic, and these were alarmist answers, some with TC rankings. You can call me; slow but not stupid.

  8. Most of those "dumb" arguments are simply dittohead trolls, they're not really serious.  The ones I like best are the "800-yr lag in the paleo record" arguments.  Those show at least an attempt to understand the science but at the same time demonstrate a complete cluelessness about the difference between natural climate variability and climate change caused by a radiative forcing.  Second would be the "thermal flywheel/solar forcing" arguments because of the same yin/yang thing as the lag argument.

  9. deniers of what? global warming? if it's that, than i'd have to say that it'd be 'it's just a phase earth is going thru, like the ice age'

  10. I gave everyone a chance to show some science behind the "Mars is Warming" claim 3 days ago, but someone was so threatened by the lack of supporting science that they reported the question and it was deleted:

    Is Mars Warming?

In Global Warming - Asked by J S - 9 answers - 3 days ago- (Question has been removed)

The point that is most ridiculous though has to be the constant reference to cold weather events, as if one degree of warming over the past 100 years would magically eliminate weather fluctuations and Winter.

  11. I am waiting to see a man-made global warming supporter explain how humans are causing the temperature change on Mars.

  12. All denier arguments are equally stupid.

  13. I think the kicker is when multi-millionaire punduits and corporate scientists say  'The scientists promoting AGW are just making this up for grant money.'  Does anyone believe that scientists really bring home millions of dollars if they get grants? That, and the people who say 'They just want to destroy the economy and turn us into a third world nation.'

Then again, any time you see the new article 'disproving' global warming and realize that the quoted scientists are astronomers, physicists, and not one of the involved scientists is a climatologist that could be the dumbest argument too.

I'm not going to say dumb and sensationalist arguments aren't being made on both sides, but MOST of the arguments against Global Warming are on a par with Intelligent Design or Flat Earth science.  As far as experts IN THE FIELD, there is a universal consensus that global climate change is a fact and human civilization is the primary contributor.  About the only experts on climate who are saying "it's too big for us to make a difference" are the ones saying we already screwed ourselves and won't be able to stop the feedback loop.

  14. Do you mean AGW...... or just global warming in general??  If you mean the former....then I guess that I would welcome any conclusive proof that man is the cause.

If you mean global warming in general....then I will offer that I have no argument as to the phenomenon's existence.  The Earth has warmed..... and cooled in natural cycles for millenia.  There's not much that we can do to change that.....short of strapping some rocket engines on an asteroid and aiming it towards Earth. (LOL)

  15. How about when they mention they don't believe in AGW because Al Gore does.

  16. I personally like the "volcanoes" argument

  17. Global Warming?  New Data Shows Ice Is Back

    Complete article at the link.

Are the world's ice caps melting because of climate change, or are the reports just a lot of scare mongering by the advocates of the global warming theory?

Scare mongering appears to be the case, According to reports from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that reveal that almost all the allegedly “lost” ice has come back. A NOAA report shows that ice levels which had shrunk from 5 million square miles in January 2007 to just 1.5 million square miles in October, are almost back to their original levels.

Moreover, a Feb. 18 report in the London Daily Express showed that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than usual, challenging the global warming crusaders and buttressing arguments of skeptics who deny that the world is undergoing global warming.

If global warming gets any worse we'll all freeze to death.
