I have a charger for my phone that works on my cig lighter, but I want to be able to charge my camera on holiday, and that requires a "normal" plug socket. Any ideas / help?

Cheers

  1. You need an inverter like this;

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store...

Check the output of the inverter (in Watts) is sufficient to power whatever you want to plug into it (Your camera charger will have it's input wattage written on it. - Halfords do larger output ones if you need that.

I assume you're in the UK. The device above converts your 12v car battery output from the cigarette lighter to 240v mains voltage - If you're from elsewhere, you may need a regional version to produce, for example, 110v for the USA instead of the 240v we use in the UK.

  2. At any automotive parts store (Chief's, Pepboys, etc) you can purchase a power inverter that will make your cigarette lighter into a standard 110v wall plug.

For only charging your camera you can get the smallest one, usually around $30.00.  If you want to run power tools or something you'd have to buy a much larger inverter usually around US$150.00-US$200.00.

  3. buy a 24v to 240v inverter they are the nuts available from halfords or maplins etc.

they will run any 240v items depending on the wattage

they vary in output but all will charge a camera ,

cost varies not more than £30 ish

    check the net..

  4. you should just get a car charger that works for your camera.

  5. Get an adapter

    I've got one its great

plugs into cig lighter in car and has

a socket for a plug on top and a usb

    on the side

I can straighten my hair on route to work

  6. There is a simple device, known as an Inverter.

This is a simple box containing electrical wiring, and converts the voltage from 12volts to 230, in order to power items.

These devices come in all different sizes of power.

Low wattage- will easily connect to cigarette lighter or socket.

High wattage - these have terminals to connect to battery.

If you Only intend to power items such as cameras, then you could use one of the smaller units, cost about £20.

Some brands will even contain an optional remote control, so if you can't actually reach the inverter, you can turn the power on and off.

email me if any more queries or questions.

  7. If this is a UK question. This is what you require.................

  8. what is a "normal" plug?

Maybe you want to get a inverter to generate 120v so you use a wall charger.

    Good Luck...

  9. You need in the UK a 12VDC to 230VAC inverter it will convert 12v dc into 230volts AC just check how much power you need this should be in watts or amps.
