Question:

What is the easiest food for j*p Quails?

My son has 6 female j*p Quails (getting a male shortly) and we are currently using the food we give to the chickens, ie: scratch mix and layer pellets, and we run it through a grister to make a crumble. I would prefer an easier food mix, apart from chick starter/grower.

Does anyone know if I can feed commercial canary/finch or budgie seed and is this a complet diet for them?

  1. Budgie type seed mix should be fine, even a good quality wildbird mix or aviary mix. Every now and then you could mix in some of your chook pellets with the seeds.

As mentioned above, they would be partial to greens, and I would imagine insects, but they can probably search for those themselves.

If you want to encourage insects into their enclosure you can put a pile of non-treated sawdust/woodchips on the floor of the enclosure for them to dig through.

  2. Well mate, I personally just feed mine what my birds drop.

They just eat the remains of the small parrot food (Seeded mix) I have for the Budgies and Peachfaces.

They probably wouldnt mind having some greens to chomp on, but they are good cleaners and will eat whatever you get them.

    Hope this answers your question.
