You are a meteorologist. Explain to me the area of the country that would be the easiest to forecast, the hardest to forecast and reasons why. Would the time of the year have an effect? Be complete

  1. The easiest forecasts are those that are influenced by water year round in the subtropics.

Take for instance San Diego and their Meditteranean climate.  They are controlled by the onshore winds from the Pacific Ocean all year.  This keeps the temperature moderated in all seasons.  They are also fairly dry and it is very easy to predict when they will and won't get rain as the weather systems are cut and dry coming onshore.

Also, any sub-tropical locations are easier than mid-latitudes.  They generally have a very persistent forecast from day to day with no fast changes in weather patterns.  I.E.  Miami..

I guess the places that most fit the bill of coastal and subtropical are Miami, San Diego, and Honolulu.

  2. It really depends on the forecaster and the time of year. For me, living in Florida, it would be easier to forecast for this area during the summer than to forecast during the winter in the North East. In Florida during the summer we have highs in the upper 80's with lows around 70 pretty much everyday. It also normally rains everyday around 5pm or so. I'm not too experienced with the North East since I don't live there, so I'm not sure what kind of conditions need to exist for a snow storm or blizzard or whatnot.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Easiest - Alaska - snowy, snowy, snowy
