  1. Like dale said, ninja 250 is an excellent bike to start with. buy a used one "you will drop it" get a feel for it and then sell it for the same price you paid "if it's in good condition" since they don't lose resale value.

Rock base I think said a suzuki gs500? that's also a great bike with more POWER,good handling. but get the naked version better with no fairings.

First make you sure you get your license!!!!!!!!

  2. Dale has it right. Maybe go with an SV 650 ( Suzuki).

  3. It all depends on your skill level and what your looking for. The Ninja 250 is very easy but it lacks power. I see alot of first timers on Suzuki Katanas they have alot more power and are very responsive to the rider. I'd say stay away from bikes with alot of power like the gsxr 750 or larger.

  4. 2008 Suzuki GS500F ($5,199)

Photo © SuzukiThe GS500F's sporty appearance should appeal to performance-oriented riders, but its air-cooled, twin-cylinder 487cc engine is tame enough for beginners.

One of the tamest members of the notorious Ninja family, the 500R is like a Ninja 250R on steroids-- while remaining manageable enough for beginners.

Don't let its Gixxer-like looks fool you; the Suzuki GSX650F's upright posture and tractable powerplant make it a great beginner bike.

  5. as said, ninja 250 isn't the most powerful of bikes.... but it's by far one of the easiest to learn on...  if you're exceptionally tall/heavy (6foot or over, 250 puonds or over) you might wanna jump right to a 500...

if you do go the ninja route, use craigslist.com and buy a used one... chances are you won't be on the bike for long before you have to move up, and a used ninja will hold pretty much every single penny of it's value for a year or more.... so it's not like you're really losing money when it's time to upgrade, just sell it for what you paid for...
