  1. a long board. 9ft long and 24in wide

  2. longboard.

and if you know 'hardcore' surfers who have wooden longboards those things are awesome!

  3. eh like everyone said basically LONGBOARD

its long wide body makes it a stable board to stand up on or learning the pop up you can basically catch anything that resembles a wave and you can take as long as you want to get up as long as the wave is still pushing you

short board gives you less time to get up or pop up

need at least waist high waves for it to perform right

usually have to catch the pocket of the wave so timing is crucial on the pop up

not as stable as long board

    and a lot less buoyant

  4. long board

at least 2 feet taller than you

    wide

  5. Ditto - a longboard... at least 9'.

Here's a great article I always recommend to beginners called Lear How To Surf In One Day:

    Good luck and have fun!

  6. the longer and thicker the better.  and make sure you get a foam one.  with a leash.

  7. Longboard, you'll want to look for a thick board that is fairly wide. This will ensure stability. Once you've learned timing and reading the waves, and more importantly standing up, you can start looking at more techy boards. Remember rome was'nt built in a day, surfing is no different.

  8. i just answered this same question so i'll tell you what i told the last person,

It really depends on what type of surfing you want to do. If you intend to change to a shortboard later on i would reccommend a 7'0 hybrid. This is a cross between a longboard and a shortboard. They are thicker, longer and wider than regular shortboeard to provide stability while you learn. However, they have a pointed nose and narrower tail with smaller fins than a longboard. This type of board will allow you to practise core shortboard skills such as duckdiving, and carving up the wave. With a board like this you will easily be able to progress onto a shortboard. I started on a board like this and was standing up within 2 weeks, within a year i progressed to a 6'4 shortboard.

If however you want to stick to the longboards, i'd reccommend the longest, widest board you can find.

goodluck with your surfing it's a great sport!

  9. Well it depends on what you mean by easy.

A longboard is going to be easiest to stand up on but if there is a lot whitewater or larger waves it will be hard for you to get our past the break. It is also really easy to paddle onto a wave on a longboard.

A mini-mal is what is generally accepted as the ideal board to learn on, it is easy to paddle, very stable, yet small enough to turn and also to paddle out through the break.

So in summary, you want something that is all round easy not just easy to stand on. If you cant get out past the waves you are not going to be having much fun.

    cheers
