  1. try CCleaner:

    http://www.ccleaner.com

the first time I used it, it cleared like 20GB of Junk

  2. Forget downloading CCleaner etc. You can do it yourself. For example if you have lots of folders on your desktop right click them, and select properties and click the advanced then select compress contents to save disk space, click ok.

Also use system tools and disk clean up

  3. Delete all of your fonts (by opening them and deleting them one at a time) that are allowed by your O.S., you will end up with between 5-12 sets left and will have gained around a Gig of space.

In your Control Panel, you can click on Power Options and click on Hibernate, unclick the box that activates it and save a bit more.

In Control Panel/System, click on System Restore and limit it to 900-1,000 and save even more space.

If all of that still isn't enough, go into your 'My Computer and right click on "Local Disk" and click Properties.

Check the Index box for faster access to files and also check the Compress Files to save space.

Your computer should be a bit better now, but you still aren't finished.

Click Start/My Computer, right click Local Disk and click Properties.

Do the clean up then click Tools and Defragment.

Then, do the Check now option one at a time, rebooting after each of the two test/repair options have run.

  4. The easiest way is to back-up your files and reformat your computer. Install a new OS.

  5. CCleaner is a fine freeware app. but be careful: it really gets out many things you may want to keep, such as cookies & history.

Another tip is to compress 'c' drive and allow indexing.

In 'My Computer' > 'C' drive > Properties : these are the 2 boxes at the bottom of the 'General' tab.

Defrag once a week; more if you do a lot of video &/or photo work.
