I would just call ahead. They will know right off the bat if they have any in stock, and if you're lucky, they may know when they are expecting a delivery (some retailers know ahead, some dont).

Get some numbers of various stores that sell the Wii, Best Buy, Circuit City, Game Stop, Walmart, Target, etc. etc. etc, and call and ask if they have any in stock. If they don't, just ask when they will get their next shipment and be ready when they say it's on a certain day because they sell out fast.
