I'm taking a trip to Montreal and will need to get from the airport to the Delta Centre-Ville hotel on University St using public transport.

Any tips?

  1. The cheapest is:

Bus 204 from the airport to Dorval Terminus, then bus 211 direction Lionel-Groulx (it's just one stop but a long one), then the Orange line metro direction Laval (new stop, I don't know if it's called that exactly, it's the platform down two levels and on your right from where you entered) to Place Bonaventure. From there I expect there'll be signs to your hotel...

Should cost about $2.50 I think. Get a transfer from the 204 driver, show it to the 211 driver and then put it in the turnstile at the metro.

I don't recommend the train unless you're getting in at morning rush-hour, it comes very rarely during the day (every two-three hours). As far as I know the 204 comes only every half-hour other than rush hour, and every 15 minutes during rush-hour.

  2. i suggest you either take a taxi, or I think there is a bus that goes downtown. as for the metro, it does not go all the way to the airport, but to go around montreal it is very convenient.

  3. After all that time spent flying over the Atlantic?!?

    Forget it!

Let a few British moths fly out of your wallet for once and hire a cab buddy!

And don't forget to tip the driver this time!

It'll make you feel better, you'll see!

    Enjoy your trip to Montreal!

  4. You can try calling or emailing the hotel and see if they offer a shuttlebus service to/from Trudeau International Airport. The number to reach them from the UK I think should be:

    011-514-879-1370

As for taking public transit, there is a bus (204) that leaves Dorval airport. It will get you to the Dorval or Pine Beach train station, which will take you downtown to Central Station (Gare Central) which is located right next to University Street.

However, you will spend time waiting for a bus, then time waiting for the train, then walking a few blocks to the hotel, all the while pulling your luggage. The bus will cost under $3.00, the train may cost as much as $6.00, and you may add up to 90 minutes on your time, after a long tiring flight.

My suggestion is to let the taxi at the airport take you to the hotel. They know exactly the way to get there, and it will be a bit more expensive (probably between $30-40) but less worries about getting in the right bus or train going in the right direction.

By the way, it is not like London where you have the black cabs that charge one price, and the private ones that charge another. All taxis are licensed and have to charge a specific rate that is published in their vehicle.
