I'm looking to make my bike street legal. I know there are kits out there. I have a headlight, may not be DOT cert., and a LED taillight that doesn't have the brake switch hooked up. I still have the knobbys on and don't know if you need to change that out to DOT cert. Would it be cheaper to by the parts that I need seperately or just easier to by the kit? What did you do?

  1. I hate to tell you but you can no longer convert an "off-road only" bike to a dual sport / street legal in the state of California.  they changed that ruling back in around 2002 or 2003.

your MXC falls into that category along with the EXC up until 2007 year model which KTM switched to putting the necessary mods in place to register as street legal.

now it may be possible to upgrade your bike and get it registered in a different state???

anyway, there are two ways to bring up to specs (just not in CA).  you can do the work yourself by getting the necessary switches for your brake light, hi/low beam headlight along with dual element bulb, aftermarket add-on mirror and horn OR merey go to http://www.bajadesigns.com/ and buy a kit to install.  it just all depends on how electrically & mechanically incline you are in the piecing it together route.

pretty simple to do in Texas if you have the title for the bike and a few hours worth of work plus a few more hours in paperwork in getting the title changed from off-road only & registering it.
