What is the easiest way to strip my hair from the black?

I've been coloring my hair many years, vary from dark brown to black because of all gray hair for coverage. Anyway, I'm over it, how can I take it down to a light or medium brown???...Myself

I tried this yesterday its called ColorFix because i dyed my hair black.Its not bleach but it works better then it.Where i live it only cost me 12.99 at Sallys Beauty Supply store and i think thats the only place you can buy it other then online

It works great but smells very bad

A lightener will need to be used.  Color will not lift color.  Instead of stripping the whole head, have you thought about using a frosting cap, pulling hair through, strip just those strands, removing the cap, and then coloring the lighter color?  You will have a lot more dimension that way.  It won't look so flat.  If you have no experience with lighteners, maybe you should get it professionally done the first time.  You obviously know how to maintain the roots.  It is the stripping that is tricky.
