If that requires to join the airforce just to get the hours will i still be able to go to college? i want to be a life flight pilot and that is the minimum amt. they need to interview you. In the airforce how long would it take to get the hours? I am assuming you fly on a regular basis.

  1. I think barnett19 was joking because you asked a very difficult question.  It's similar to asking, "what's the easiest way to make a million dollars in a hurry?"  If we knew how do to that, we would probably have done it.  Getting the first thousand hours, or two, is the most difficult think you can do in aviation.  And, the job you are looking at will probably want a lot more than just 2k hours in anything.  They will have requirements for certain types of flying and aircraft you have flown.  The standard saying is to get the heaviest and dirtiest time you can.  Heavy means larger aircraft, and dirty means bad weather.  And, when you get close to that 2000 hours, you might find that your "dream" job has changed from what you think you might want to do right now.  And, the minimum amount to interview doesn't mean you will actually get the job, or even the interview.  Many jobs list minimum hours, but still want far more than that, especially when so many qualified people are applying for the same job.

Just get your ratings, become a CFI, and work on the basics for now.  Don't worry about where the hours will come from, as there is no way to predict that.  Just start flying and apply to every job you can, whether you are qualified for it or not.

    Good luck.

  2. There are many advantages to the military route.  You must have a 4-year degree to apply for flight training, but if you get in, you are on the track you want to be on.  If you get into the Air Force or Navy and don't make flight training, there are numerous valuable career tracks.  And the cheapest way to build time and get your ratings is to join the Aero Club at your base or station.  Best rates for airplane rental and instruction, and the instructors are the best in the world.  Then when you get out, you can fly charter, give instruction, and start talking to the small independent air cargo companies.

Small independent cargo flying is the best way to build time in some heavy equipment starting with the least hours.

    Good luck!

  3. If you join the Air Force, you must have a degree from a four year college already in order to be an officer/pilot. And, there is no guarantee of flight training if you join the AF.

If you are thinking of becoming a helicopter pilot (Life Flight), then you will need to attend a commercial flight school and obtain your Commercial  Rotor Wing instrument certificate. It is quite expensive (about $75K). If you are thinking of a fixed wing position, you will need a Commercial multi-engine instrument, also about the same price depending upon where you go, some are a little cheaper.

To obtain the necessary hours, the only "easy" way is to obtain your instructor's certificate along with the above ratings and work for a while as an instructor in helicopters and/or fixed wing. That is the only viable way of building up your hours unless you are independently wealthy and can afford to go fly around the countryside spending your money until you have built up the hours.

  4. Fly a thousand hours per year at a commuter airline.  You won't fly anywhere near 1000 hours per year in the Air Force.

  5. Become a CFI and get paid to fly.  You get credit for the hours.  And its always fun to get paid to do something I would do for free...

  6. I agree with John, try asking for more flight time if you can.  I don't know how the air force works their policy either but just a suggestion.

  7. No easy way to get 2000 hours. Even in the air force. You want to fly? Knock the word easy out of your vocabulary.

  8. get in a cessna and dly around the world

  9. impossible!wait for more than a year!
