  1. You have several choices that require an "allied health" type of education in most states.  You may be able to get a job checking patients in with only a high school diploma.

You may want to take a medical billing and coding course to help with patient records and to bill services to the various insurance companies.

A medical assistant course will allow you to be the type of patient representative that takes vital signs and assists the doctors.

Getting your LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) license will require a longer course of education, but will be worth it for the additional income it will give you.

Most clinics also employ Registered Nurses, if they can get them and Physician's Assistants.

Start looking for an educational program at one of the many private or public vocational schools, or a local community college.

  2. Depends on the clinic or facility.  In NY i was a patient care technician and just recently moved to NC and can't find a job in the medical field to save my life because i need to have a NC state certification so i went down to the community college and signed up for certification class for CNA-1,  The class is 16 weeks long.

So you may be looking at some school time to be able to work in a clinic.
