  1. Humid storage conditions will increase the likelihood of the product setting or becoming sticky, regardless of fertilizer type. MOP is more susceptible to caking than other fertilizers.

Fertilizer granules that have been physically degraded and/or contain fines will absorb moisture quicker than non-degraded product. This will lead to a higher likelihood of the product setting.

In general terms P fertilizer can be stored for longer periods than N, K, N/P mixtures and N, P and K mixtures & compound fertilizers.

However prolonged storage of any fertilizer requires caution and must take into account the factors which impact storage life.

  2. MOP (muriate of potash) is also known as potassium chloride.  It is a salt, and therefore water soluble.  Excess moisture can start to degrade the chips (granules), and they may stick together.  This may result in the formation of lumps, or it may change the bulk density.

  3. High moisture levels in MOP (potash) result in lump formation in storage.
