  1. The moment the individual cannot preform and function well within any group setting. job, etc, it becomes undesirable for society. For example small time unemployment is OK for a large or a developed society, but the moment it becomes large scale unemployment society will naturally suffer as a result.

    C. Wright Mills goes further into this in "The Sociological Imagination."  But I guess most things could relate to it...


  2. individual relate to the community in -ve / +ve ways.  when social problems like binge drinking is common, its tough for an individual to stay out. strong willpower / +ve peer influence is required.  hence the problem can widen when individ are easily influence.

    this becomes a greater problem when society is affected. then the multiplier effect takes place.  large amount of resources will be required.  binge is now beyond control in uk/australlia but efforts must continue.

    drugs is still a big problem in many countries affecting both individual / society.  we seem to run out of ideas to handle these. pity!!
