What is the effective way of using hop-step in the NBA 2k8?

What exactly does it achieve? i never use it.. and when i tried, i usually just bump right into a player and have the ball stolen from me..

How do you effectively use it?

With turbo on - Drive to the lane with a big man, hop step and he will spin and stop and youll be closer to the basket, pump fake to get the defender up and slam it home.

No turbo - take a shooter (mid range or long) and run then hop step around the 3-point line and theyll hop back giving you more room for a shot, easy buckets
