Question:

What is the energy used in Aluminum production and what is the source of that energy?

I'm pretty sure it's electricity but I don't know what the source is. Maybe a power plant? I've looked all over the internet but all the information is really confusing. Some website say power plants, others say hydro power. can you please help me if you know, I would really appreciate it.

  1. It's electricity and it can come from anywhere. Because large amounts of cheap electrical energy are required, aluminum plants are often located near hydroelectric sources.

    In New Zealand, for instance, the hydropower generated at Lake Manapouri is transmitted to the port town of Bluff. There ships loaded with bauxite from Australia are offloaded right at the refinery.
