What would happen or what would it be like if a person was floating in space with no space suit to protect them? It looks so quite and calm in open space but is this just an illusion, are the conditions extream?

  1. In empty space:

    1)  extremely cold

    2)  the sun would burn you in minutes

    3)  your internal pressure would make you feel like you are exploding

    4)  no air

    5)  absolute silence.

    Time to live: 15 seconds.

  2. The temperatures are extreme and it is pitch black except the sun and stars and planets. And there's no oxygen, the air we need to breathe.

  3. There is no heat in space, and no air to breathe.  It is the closest physical approximation of a perfect vacuum.

    The conditions are extreme.

Contrary to popular belief, a person suddenly exposed to outer space would not explode, freeze to death or die from boiling blood.  They would take a short while to die by suffocation.  Air would immediately leave the lungs due to the enormous difference in pressure (no air pressure in space).

Any oxygen dissolved in the blood would empty into the lungs to try to equalize the pressure difference and once the deoxygenated blood arrived at the brain, death would quickly follow.

Humans or animals would lose consciousness after a few seconds and die of hypoxia within minutes.  Their blood and other body fluids would boil due to the decreased pressure.

Rapid decompression can be much more dangerous than vacuum exposure itself. Even if the victim does not hold his breath, venting through the windpipe may be too slow to prevent the fatal rupture of the delicate alveoli of the lungs.[4] Eardrums and sinuses may be ruptured by rapid decompression, soft tissues may bruise and seep blood, and the stress of shock will accelerate oxygen consumption leading to hypoxia.

If the person was in direct sunlight, add to all this almost-immediate burning and blistering of all exposed skin.
