  1. y = 2x - 8

    The slope of this line is 2. The slope of any parallel to this line is also 2.

    (0, -3) is a point on the parallel line. Use the point to calculate the y-intercept:

    b = y-mx

    = -3 - 2·0

    = -3

    The equation of the parallel line is

    y = 2x - 3

  2. both have the same slope:

    m=2 from y=2x-8

    from (0,-3)

    dy/dx = m=2

    y-(-3)/(x-0)=2

    (y+3)/x=2

    answer: y=2x-3

  3. (0,-3) is your y-intercept and parallel lines have the same slope as the line they are parallel to

    so its y=2x-3

  4. y=2x-3
