I know the cost per sq. ft.; I've measured the areas: length, width, depth, riser, number of steps. Length, width of landings. I need to know how much materials will be needed and their cost.

If someone has step by step directions through the method to figure this out. I'd sure appreciate it.

Thank you

  1. Some advise.. Dont use a laminate on stairs.. the way the stair nosing is used  w/a laminate it covers the end of the boards and creates a tripping hazard.. In my  flooring store we refused to do stairs in laminate because of the tripping hazard  GL

  2. Most stairs i have done was not figured by the sq.ft. it is figured by how many boards per step. for example the run (step) will take 2 boards if using the 7" boards. Use 1 full board then cut another to cover the step, the left over piece from the cut start the next step then cut another board to finish and so on, same steps for the riser also. If the riser can be done in 1 piece that is great. So figure at 3 to 4 boards per step depending on how wide the material is that your using. So if a box has 22.00 sq. ft. it will have 8 boards per box if i remember correctly. Don't forget the bullnose per step!!
